Do you have a daughter? Do you like to sew, but not THAT much? Then I implore you; whip up a few shirred dresses for your girl – they’ll last FOREVER.
It was deliciously sunny here on the weekend which caused us to break out the summer dresses that hadn’t seen the light of day for quite some time, including this pillowcase/shirred number I made for Punk’s first birthday, there she is above in all her “I’m one today!” glory… Not only does it still fit, but better, I think. Sits nicely above the knee & is perfect for running about in the sun – I can even see it wearing as a top when she is not so very much taller….
I ony recently mastered shirring and it is very satisfying and so quick. Punkys dress/ top is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love anything made of vintage sheets bu thaven't yet mastered the art of shirring. I think I keep doing the wrong thing with the bobbin. Must say I haven't tried for like, 30 years so maybe things have changed too. Cherrie
ReplyDeletehappy birthday big girl. gorgeous pics, she is so cute. i love the frock. i have a pile of stashed fabric and pc's to embark on the same project
ReplyDeleteOh Michelle it's not her birthday until January... But she IS cute! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat little dress is gorgeous. Don't you just love it when a little outfit can last and last in different forms? She looks the same but different to her one year old self. Love how they do that, grow up yet stay the same.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good I think you should do/link a tutorial or something ;)
ReplyDeleteI am embarrassed to admit that I have never done shirring but, seeing that gorgeous girl in her beautiful frock makes me want to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is gorgeous! (so is Punky!). How I wish I'd made a dress when my girl was 1... already 2 years late!! I remember hearing shirring's not that hard, but would love a tutorial / link too!!
ReplyDeleteMy Miss 13 (when she was Miss 1,2,3 and even 4) just lived in these. I then even got to pass them on to my nieces. I actually can't believe how long the shirring elastic lasted for! The Punk's dress is extra sweet with that binding around the bottom. Tres chic!
ReplyDeletecutey cuteness is all I can say!
ReplyDeleteI am yet to do any shirring - will have to give it a go:)
ReplyDeleteWe could have put your pillow case and my sheet together and made a set:)
Instead - I am sitting in it at the moment:) I have the sheet turned into pants (it was a sheridan you know:) And is devine to sleep in - like sleeping in sheets:)

Amelia had matching ones at the time and my niece is now wearing them:)
VIC! It's GORGEOUS!! love the fabric too, really everything about it. And so is she...xo
ReplyDeleteHey you are right, Mark's daughter was given one with a rather long cottony flowy dress when she was 5 and the other day she wore it with jeans as a top! The elasticated part is magic isnt it. I'd love to try to make one one day :)
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous on her!
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeleteThat really is such a cute dress/future top. Thanks for the tip. Will remember to do this in the summer. I hope. ;)
