Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Yesterday, for those who don't yet know, we put in an offer on this house & it was accepted!

I feel nervous & excited & anxious & happy & stressed & about a hundred other emotions... buying a house is amazing & exciting but also highly stressful - not great for a big worrier like me...!

It's in a really good location, close to the centre of town & is bursting with character - it would want to be, it's over 100 years old! I hope it hasn't any ghosties - really - the third bedroom gave me a weird vibe - my plan at this point is going to be to store boxes in it & close the door...!

She (obviously) needs a new kitchen & bathroom & the lounge is beyond teeny weeny... it's smaller than the smallest bedroom... I don't think all our lounge room furniture will even fit in there - The Boy says he will help save space by buying a new flat screen TV... so considerate, that one! The trampoline (oh god the trampoline...) is going to take up the ENTIRE back yard. Yup. The whole thing. That's going to look... interesting, but I'm glad we have it - it will tire the Punk out in the place of running around the massive yard we have right now. The Boy is planning his veggie patches already & considering demolishing the dodgey shed to erect a greenhouse.

The second bedroom - this is my FAVOURITE PART - has a loft. A loft! It's GORGEOUS.... I am torn between making it a kind of study or my craft area... I really, really, really want to make it my craft area, but I probably have to share the loveliness of it all. There is a large bungalow out the back - perfect for Le Punk's playroom, that will help get rid of toy clutter in the house, thankfully, the ceilings are incredibly high (it's funny that back in the day they were much shorter than we are today, yet they made the ceilings so high you need an extend able ladder to change a light bulb....), Punk's room has an open fireplace, there is a cute front door (begging to be painted red, to match the roof...) & a lovely little hallway... I do believe I'm smitten!

I can now be on the lookout for wardrobes & sets of drawers to redo due to the lack of built-in robes - yay! Not to mention scouring the "For Sale" section for "new" old kitchens, drooling over IKEA goodness & reading up on DIY reno skills!

  1. Congrats Vic! It is really nice having a place that is all your own. I know you are going to make it into the best home ever.

I have to confess that I LOVE old houses, so am a tad bit jealous, but at the same time will love sharing the journey of you making it your home.

Oh and if you have ghosties, I have a few friends who have done cleansing rituals in their homes. Maybe that would be a solution if that room keeps giving you the heebies.

  2. Yeah Vicki that is such good news, congratulations. It is so exciting buying your first house and scary at the same time. And I just love your house old houses are just wonderful to have and they have so much character, a bit of paint and they are just beautiful. Mine is an old Queenslander, it's small but I love it. Have fun celebrating and I think my friend burns white sage or something to cleanse, maybe your could google.:)

  3. Could you maybe squeeze in one more? The style of the house looks beautiful and I'd love a veranda - but we don't really have them over here in the (BORING!!!) UK :)

  4. Wow Vic! That's great news! I'm so excited for you. The house looks beautiful with all it's original features. I love that style. I can't wait to see what you do with it!!!

P.s. We had a little ghostie friend when we first moved into this house. We made a point of sending it positive, reassuring energy when we went near it's section of the house so it didn't feel like we were invading it's space and it seems to be happy with us now now (though it's not too fond of strangers!). Ok, that sounds ridiculous but it is true. lol.

  5. Thanks Sara - I don't know what it is about that room - when we're in I'll take a picture of it, I think it's the layout too... it's like a cell?!

Catherine - I WISH it were our first home - then we'd be all cashed up with first home buyer grants & discounts lol, but we used that all up buying a unit in Sydney a few years ago, which was *whistles* quite a lot more exxy than this house! It's crazy to think how much we paid for a tiny one bedder in North Sydney!

Clair - lol, you may not have verandahs, but you do have some amazing old buildings, much, much older than this'un!

SP - I really, really hope it's not a ghostie, just me being silly, even the idea of a ghostie freaks me the hell out & I don't know how positive I could be...!

  14. Hooray for you and your family, what an exciting time. Not long now until you have red door of your very own to come home too. It sounds fantastic, I’m very jealous of the loft.

  15. I can feel your excitement hit me from here! And with a loft! I always wanted an attic. Mysterious and adventurous things always happen attics (or in this case lofts) lol. When we bought our house (at a rock bottom price, made a ridiculous offer that was accepted) I loved discovering all the old hidden treasures left behind by previous owners. I can imagine you will have fun doing that. You just never know what you will dig up in the garden with such an old house. And it is so gorgeous it will be a real delight to decorate and make it your own full of vintagey and crafty goodness! Definitely makes moving the trampoline worth it!

  16. Speaking of ghosties, there is a well known Vic haunted house that did tours and sleepovers. My sis and family spent the night there. It got a bit too freaky so one of her older sons did a special casting out of bad spirits type prayer and apparently there have been no sightings or happenings since! (probably much to the owners disgust) rofl!

and now you can make it all cute, you must get real living magazine, and read, they have heaps of awesome things in there, cute homes and alot of reconstructed cheap things, like roadside finds, op shop finds etc, youd like it!!

or decor8 blog, and of course apartment therapy! :)
cannot wait to see it evolve!!

i didnt realise you owned before in sydney, how awesome, but ahh i bet the price is so different right?

we hope to buy a house next year but wow, cheapest is a 1bedroom unit and thats at least 200 or so grand....hmph stupid expensive newcastle! lol.

ah well have fun taking down that trampoline ;)
if you need help or advice on decorating please ask me!! you should see my stash of home magazines, and my kikki-k "dream home" folder lol.
