What is this?

I keep seeing this fabric thing in the linen section at the opshop & I keep picking it up because I like the fabric & it catches my eye, but I haven’t the foggiest what it is. A fellow opper suggested last week that it was something to carry a baby in, but I should think that would result in a speedy dash to the Emergency room.

I’d say it’s about 45cm X 45 cm in size, has handles sewn into the inside (if it IS the inside..) & each corner has a folded over piece of the outer fabric secured with a button. I should have taken a photo with my phone but I forgot I had it, so you get a hastily drawn mess instead.

whoknows1

…so…? What is it? If you have any idea what this could be, in spite of the crappy drawing, please tell me! I will be wondering for weeks to come unless somebody buys the bloody thing.

  2. Is it a casserole carrier? I had no idea such a thing existed but just came across a picture of one tonight.

  3. Can you undo the corner pieces? It looks like maybe you could undo the corner pieces and it would turn into a big bag. Like one of those big bags that folds down into a smaller bag.

  5. I have no idea, but like the idea of casserole carrier (and am being transported back in time to all the "bring a plate" events of my childhood...)

  6. You know, I think it very well may be a casserole cover, even if some aspects still confuse me. Obviously my picture is upside down, but Google has yielded no results of a cover the same - all the square ones do up differently & have different handle placement, but I guess it would work, something like this; http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/wrap+n+go+carrier+pattern.do?sortby=ourPicks&refType=1# but with the buttons...

Thank you guys! Having never made a casserole to take anywhere (Car - did you say "But what will I have for dinner?"), I would never have realised such a thing existed, but thinking logically now, about the fabric choice, it is probably from the "Pot Luck Era"!
