Yesterday I was having a rummage in my bookshelf for a book to swap with Kate when I found a book I forgot I had & had fun flicking through it. The book was The Lonely Planet Guide to Experimental Travel & it has lots of things in it that sound fun to do, but one activity in particular struck me as particularly blog-friendly so I suggest we play.
“Synchronised Travel”.
Here is what to do, camera in hand (take a photo at each step):
1. First stage is your starting point (Take a photo).
2.Walk in any direction for 50 or 100 paces, then turn 180 degrees (photo).
3. Continue walking in that direction until you see something blue (photo).
4. Make a left turn & walk 50 to 70 paces (photo).
5. Walk in any direction until you see something that either is or looks like the number 7 or 11 (photo).
6. Take the first left & continue walking until you find somewhere to sit (photo).
7. Choose any direction & walk for 25 or 50 paces (photo).
8. Continue walking until you see an unusual colour, shape or texture (photo). Turn 180 degrees.
9. Keep walking in any direction until you see an archway or an unusual architectural feature (photo).
10. Head for home but continue looking for something that catches your eye. When you find something, take your photo with it.
Photos should be as creative as you can make them. You can join in wherever in the world you happen to be. I think ideally you’re supposed to do it at the same time but let’s give ourselves a week so as many people as possible can play & I’ll put a linky up next Saturday so that we can share our “journeys”, we might even put together a collage of each step? That would be cool.
You in?
Oh, that sounds like fun. I have a day with the kids tomorrow so sound like a good activity to do with them...unless I end up in the middle of a 3 laned highway of course...
ReplyDeleteYep. I'm in!
ReplyDeleteI'm playing until I get caught in my neighbors backyard and charged with trespassing or shot at!
ReplyDeleteI am so in! Mine what be fancy photos though cause I still haven't bought a replacement for my slr that got stolen. Hopefully soon but until then its point and shoot photos.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - I'm in!
ReplyDeleteI SURE AM!!!
ReplyDeleteWIll do and blog this week.
Sounds fun! Will try and do it on Monday with the kids.
ReplyDeleteOk, am I reading this right? You walk 50 or 100 paces and then turn 180 degrees - so that's looking the way you just came - and then point 3 says continue till you see something blue. Is that continue the way you just turned? ie. back the way you just walked? Or continue the way you were going before you turned 180 for the photo in point 2? I'm making this too difficult for myself, aren't I.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I soooo would have loved to join in but I don't think I can walk that far!
ReplyDeleteMadeline; I copied it all straight from the book so have about as much of an idea as you lol, but I assume that when you are able to walk "in any direction" in both points before turning 180, you could have turned a corner or something, then you can continue in another direction. Also the pictures at certain points don't have to be of your route or the view from where you're standing, just something interesting.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone will be getting banned for "doing it wrong" ;) - just do whatever you think you should do & have fun!!
Ah yes, corners. That makes sense, thank you. LOL, I'm such a rule follower.
ReplyDeleteso want to play but don't have time!!! argh
ReplyDeleteOGM, this made me laugh - wish we could see pictures of each of us who tries - think my kids will love it:) Cyndy
ReplyDeleteI am surrounded by forest so this should be interesting! I am in!
ReplyDeleteI"m getting dizzy just thinking about this but I"m so in! Should be hilarious, I can just see my elderly neighbours looking out their windows thinking..what the..?
ReplyDeleteCool, I'm in!
ReplyDeleteCan you explain how the linky thing on Saturday will work - I'm new at joining in and I'd hate to stuff it up!
Hi Jody - Just take your pics & write up your blog post, publish it whenever you like. Next Saturday I will have a link list in my post, just copy the link of your blog post & paste it there & your blog post will be click-able from the list.... I think I actually made that sound harder than it is...! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou bet, I'm in. Any sort of travel I'm up for. Even if it means rediscovering my neighbourhood, well good and they do a damn fine coffee along the way too...
ReplyDeleteI'm game! I wonder if the rain will stay away long enough for me to do this today?
ReplyDeleteI would love to play however it's dark outside and I have a bad habit of falling over.
ReplyDeleteI also live out of town and the last time I went cross country I came foot to head with a massive black snake. Look forward to seeing everyone else's pictures though!
Vic,
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a go.
Sounds fun! Count me in.
ReplyDeleteThat book is amazing. I borrowed it from Borders back in the day and made a Blog about Mascot Travel (which I shall not link to).
