My Creative Space.
One great thing about heading off to the Brown Owls every fortnight, apart from hanging out with some super lovely crafty chickies, is that I will have something to share at least every two weeks for My Creative Space.
Not long after I posted about my troubles deciding on what to make for Softies for Mirabel, the solution came to me as if by magic.
I saw my gran down the street on Tuesday after she’d just left the opshop, she had a doll bed for Punk (that I had to buy off her for $2.50!) that I didn’t particularly want, it had pink & lace & if Punk never got another toy again for the rest of her life she would still have too many, but I felt obliged. I threw it in the back of the car without a second thought until it crossed my mind yesterday & a light bulb went off. Consider the above photo as the official “Before”.
So last night I start embroidering two faces for one doll. I bet someone can guess who I’m making…?

Softies for Mirabel.
I’ve been having trouble deciding what to make for Softies for Mirabel this year. I printed out Amy’s Moxie the Doxie pattern earlier, SURE that a sausage for Mirabel would be the way to go, but now I don’t know.
I want to make an adorable sausage or seven, I do, but I would also like to make something unique for the special child that will end up with my softie.
My heart aches when I think too much about why Softies for Mirabel even exists, why the Mirabel foundation exists; I wish it didn’t have to, but I’m glad it does.
One of the hardest parts of deciding what to make is deciding who it will be for. A little girl like mine? A baby boy like mine? An older girl like my little sister?
It’s a bit like at Christmas time when I choose a gift to leave at a charity gift appeal. Then I ALWAYS choose a grandpa because I don’t have one of my own any more & I feel like they are amongst the loneliest people at Christmas if they don’t have family.
I wish I had more time. I wish I was faster at sewing (& thinking!). I wish just making a toy could make a bigger difference…. but I will have to be happy with the small difference it might make. The small comfort it might be to a child that needs some large comfort.
If you intend to make a softie too, they need to be with Pip by the 5th of December.

….that time again…!
It’s time to start thinking about what you’re going to make for Softies For Mirabel this year… how fast did that go?! Massive thanks to Pip for continuing to organise & co-ordinate this inspiring soft toy drive, & look at that wee lamb… a Jess original of course!
Will you be joining in the feel good & do good making this year? This is what I made last year, and managed to post off *just* in the knick of time;
I think I’ll have to get my softie sorted asap this year though, me thinks I’ll be a bit busy/overwhelmed/exhausted after next month!

Our Weekend.
Usually I post on the weekend. There are a fair few bloggers who don’t, or who only post a picture for Wordless Weekend or something similar, that’s because they have lives you see, & are off enjoying themselves on the weekend.
The weekend in the Punky house though is different, it falls on Tuesday & Wednesday, which is why, in the past, I have been partial to a little Wordless Wednesday action myself. I digress – what I wanted to say was that I left the weekend here well enough alone, I wanted to bask in the 150-ness for a while before having to plod on into the much less graceful & not at all celebratory 151, but, all good things must come to an end…!
We had a nice, quiet weekend did the Little Punk & I.
We had unexpected pikelets (…don’t tell me you don’t know the joys of unexpected pikelets..? They occur when a rather unobservant mother having a “pyjama day” discovers when lunch time rolls around, that there is no bread for sandwiches….), had running races (..if Punky yelling “SET GO!” every 10 seconds & running in circles can be counted as racing anywhere..), got rather dirty, I upgraded the computer to Windows 7 in a mind-numbingly uninteresting couple of hours of my life which I will never get back (Which I only mention now because I am playing in the writer thingy to post this so if it’s all weird & junk, that is why…) & I managed to get my Softie For Mirabel entirely done & dusted. She’s all set to be posted & posted she shall be, today!
Hope y’all had a woo-hoo & yea-haw filled weekend too!
