Outside my comfort zone.

I’ve talked before about not being much of a dress wearer, but things seem to be changing.

I’ve been searching for more dresses. Trying different styles, different colours…

…we’re off op-shopping today, before Cam’s sister comes & raids my local haunts, & I’m wearing… pink.

Pink!

I got this cardi because it was EXACTLY the same colour as a pair of boots I ended up getting for my birthday instead of a bicycle (long story). Mind you, the boots need breaking in so I’m not wearing them for a long walk down the street.

I’ve never, ever been a “pink girl”, so this feels a bit weird but at the same time super girlie, I can pretty much guarantee I won’t be filling my wardrobe with pink things anytime soon, but it is nice for a change.

Do you ever vary from you self-prescribed fashion uniform & try new things?

Fat Person Clothes…

Circle%20print%20top

I can hardly believe that I have been keeping up my pledge to participate in Isis’s Ethical Clothing challenge for months & months & months now, with only a couple of stumbles, being;

  • A pair of metallic pink con-like shoes that were on clearance for $4. I couldn’t resist. I couldn’t. Really.

  • Two pairs of stretchy PJs since I generally just sleep in whatever I find lying about & it was thought that I might need something more conventional for an expected couple of night’s in hospital, which never eventuated.

  • One pair of maternity jeans – these were, quite frankly, very necessary, and I do not regret them at all.

…apart from that… I have stayed strong. I have found clothes to accommodate my growing girth at Le Oppy or just made do with what I already have, but I feel my resolve weakening. It is really quite hard to find the one piece of suitable pregnancy attire that has been hidden ‘Where’s Wally’ style somewhere in the store, and I’m sick of wearing shirts & tops that are for the even more rotund woman, making me look like I should be rolled out of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory instead of asked “When are you due?”. It’s hard enough, and unflattering enough, BEING a big fat preggers lady – one shouldn’t make things worse with unsuitable attire.

So.

I’m trawling Ebay for some ‘stylish’ maternity wear – surprisingly harder than one would think, and Etsy for handmade maternity wear, unsurprisingly expensive, and other ethical garments, which are both hard to find AND expensive. It is little wonder that I find myself hovering outside department stores, squinting in the windows, hoping for a glimpse of a nice maternity tee or some comfy pants….

Playing With Dolls.

Punk & I have been playing with dolls today – I got my first ever Blythe yesterday (Isis, look away now) and am officially in dolly love. She’s not even my ‘first choice’ girl – she is STILL on lay-by, but oh my she is lovely, and so much better than my fakie basaak in so many ways… so I gave her (the fakie) to Le Punk, who, in the course of an afternoon, managed to ‘scalp’ her three times, pull of a leg, frizz up her hair & cover in chocolate chip muffin. Quite obviously, she is adored.

As is my girl, just a bit more… sedately.

I have named her ‘Vida’ after the main female character in my favourite Richard Brautigan novel, she is a ‘Milky Way Sugar’ Blythe, which reminded me of another of Richard Brautigan’s novels ‘Watermelon Sugar’, so, I mean, of course I’d name her something from a different book entirely….

Her gorgeous ensemble above was a gift from an old friend, who I am now convinced has some sort of sixth-fashion-sense, because a more perfect dress for Vida I cannot imagine…

…and the ‘phase’ has only gotten stronger. It is actually quite hard to explain… not to anybody else that likes Blythe, they already ‘get it’, but to someone who wonders what the sudden attraction to a somewhat unconventional looking doll (or any doll for that matter) could possibly be for a grown woman… and I’m sure more than one of you reading this is asking yourself that…

…and honestly… I don’t know what to tell you, except that playing with this thing today has been really, really fun…!
