Pink is for girls.

Punk is big on the colour “rules”, which is a shame because she looks really cute in blue but would choose any shade of pink over it every day of the week.

It’s also a shame because I made a pink, red & white wreath for her door & wanted to make one for Suspence in Red, yellow & grey, but I was told in no uncertain terms that “Blue is for boys, it has to have blue on it”.

Lucky I like it.

I was trying to make My Poppet’s pom pom wreath two nights ago but I got sick to death of making pom poms (You need A LOT!), so I took a break to make the cardboard circle to attach the pom poms to. Once it was cut out I decided I might wrap it in yarn so that I could sew the pom poms on, but once I started with that I decided to make something different altogether.

If you’d like to make one (or two, or more) it’s super easy:

  • Trace around a large plate on some cardboard for the outside of your wreath & trace around a smaller one in the middle for the hole – cut out.
  • Tie your first colour of yarn tightly around the wreath & start wrapping clockwise, covering the knot you made & the tail of the yarn as you go. Keep the yarn tight by pulling it firmly & scooting it back tightly together with your thumb.
  • When changing colours, just tie a knot & wrap over it, try to pull the knot to the back of the wreath.
  • Finish the wrapping by hooking the yarn through a couple of strands of yarn at the back where you started from & tying a knot.
  • Crochet three small circles from your three different yarns & chain up three different lengths to attach them to the wreath, sew buttons in the centre of the circles. Attach by sewing the tail of the crochet chain through the yarn at the back, attach a length of yarn horizontally at the top of the wreath at the back for hanging & voila!

Copy cat.

So I saw Nic’s post this morning about how she saw Kirsty’s post about snazzying up an old coat hanger & I thought “I’ll give that a whirl!” …unfortunately though I must be the only person in the world without a single wire coat hanger in her possession!

hanger1

I made do with a fluoro orange plastic one – a damn sight uglier in my opinion & I only have them because I bought a box of them from Kmart when they were marked down to fifty cents when I thought perhaps one day I might decide to hang something up (I never did… they sit naked in a dark corner of a wardrobe that is stuffed full of scrunched up clothes – not a single thing is hanging…).

hanger2

I had a rummage in my yarn tub which was abandoned last year at the first sign of spring & came up with some colours I thought might look good together & also that Punk might like for her room.

hanger3

Starting at the neck I just tied & wrapped, & wrapped, & wrapped, then tied & wrapped & wrapped some more. I kept all the knots on the back so that the front stayed looking nice. The end of the hook was a bit hard… some messy white glue work was required for that & as a result that bit looks… uh, "rustic”, but over all I likey & might do some more when I’m bored.

I might even be inspired to start hanging things up…?

There is a flickr group here for completed hanger transformations – I won’t put this up as it isn’t wire, but I’ll definitely be checking out the contributions, why don’t you give it a go too?

My Creative Space.....

...is conspiring with other forces around me to get some dolls made. Really it is.

First, I found a fantastic old book at the oppy with many a cutie-pie doll to make, then my Gran gave me TWENTY FIVE doll patterns (...even if they are ye olde folk art type ones...) that someone gave my Uncle & my Uncle gave to her...

And then, just in case I didn't get the hint, I found this purty green wool at Spotlight on a totally unrelated expedition, for a whole three dollars.

So. Doll making it is. The hard part really is choosing which doll to make...! I'm going to make my Softies for Mirabel doll (...and I really better get moving...) and a doll for Le Punk for her birthday.

For more, perhaps, advanced, creative spaces, I think you know where to go -
kootoyou of course!
