Finished, but I have a question…

b1

…if you had never been to my blog or seen the yarn chair before, & you got this brooch in the mail, what would you think?

b3

Because if you think it’s too weird, if you’d open the envelope & think “What the…?!”, I could always go back to the drawing board (& keep this, which I really, really like, for myself…!)…?

This Week.

I haven’t written this weekly to-do list in a while; I’ve been meaning to, but just haven’t gotten around to it. Since it’s so very magical in making things happen however, & I have a great many things this week needing to happen, here I am.

This week I will;

whoops

….fix up this mess. Someone said when I finished the yarn chair that they’d be interested to see how it wears… well; here you are. Obviously I need to secure it better than just winding & tying, I may need to break out the glue.

hottie1

Make a second attempt at my hottie cover for Cam’s hottie challenge. I made this one last night & it didn’t turn out at all how I wanted so I’m keeping it, quite literally a “warm up”. It’s snuggly; just doesn’t look right.

Punk

Attempt a dodgey applique of a Yo Gabba Gabba character on to a yet-to-be-made garment for Le Punk to wear to their show on Saturday. We are spending the day in Melbourne, just Punky & me; shopping & sushi-ing & in my case, worrying like crazy about my wee man at home with his Daddy.

brooches

Finally decide what I’m doing for the Brooch Swap & finish my brooch (…yes, there is a bit of an Eames theme apparent there…).

boots

Find somewhere to wear my new, cute, bargain gumboots (If you’re after gumboots & are anywhere near Dimmeys go, now. $9.99; $5 for kid’s sizes. There were some cooler styles but not in my gargantuan size….).

…annnnnnnnnnnd DRINK MORE WATER. I made somewhat of an effort the last time I said I should but I am back now to a practically zero water-on-it’s-own intake.

What are you up to this week?

Garbage Guts.

bls2

We are going the “Baby Led Solids” route with Suspence in regard to weaning; we did the same with Punk & she was a fabulous eater until she hit about two & a half & refused to try anything new. She’s just recently started having the smallest tastes of new foods though which is good.

bls3

BLS is where you do away with the mush & give bub manageable pieces of proper food to munch on, squish & throw.

bls4

It’s messy. Very messy. But it’s also so much easier than chopping, steaming & mashing, more interesting for the child & helpful in developing their fine motor skills; grape tomato halves can be slippery little suckers.

bls5

At not quite seven months, our boy has toast for breakfast, a whole banana or mandarin for snacks, grapes, tomato, avocado, apple pieces, sandwiches, pasta… whatever everybody else is eating he not only tries, but demolishes…

bls1

…all that & only two teeth!

School Daze.

Punky is 3. I shouldn’t be worrying about anything to do with school yet, should I?

I am though. I am & I’ve got myself into a doubting tizz. This parenting palaver is hard, especially for an indecisive worrier like myself.

4479445497_7a5158e5d1_o

My dilemma; Le Punk is a January baby. We have the “luxury” of being able to choose when she starts school, the choices being when she has just turned 5 or when she has just turned 6… & I am so ridiculously anxious already about this decision.

We have to decide by the end of this year, essentially, so that she can either move up to 4 year old kindergarten next year in readiness for starting Prep the year after, or do another year of 3 year old kinder so she moves up to 4 year old with the same group & then on to school.

There are pluses & minuses to both options; we discovered only days ago that some speech issues we were mildly concerned about may be speech issues we should be somewhat more concerned about, so we’re off to the speech therapist next week. Delaying school would ensure that those issues are well & truly dealt with before the black shiny shoes make an appearance, for example.

We’ve pretty much agreed that yes, sending her when she’s 6 is the way to go. She’ll be more confidant, a leader. She won’t be the young one when that inevitable stage of teenage experimentation rolls around…

4480093930_19dc6d2204_o

…but still I worry. One niggle is how tall she is; already the size of a 4 year old & as big or bigger than some kids I’ve seen running around in school uniform. I can’t say I ever hated being the tallest in my class, but everyone is different. What if she isn’t accepted because she towers above her classmates? Where is a crystal ball when I need one?

Opinions? Advice? Hit me. So far I have gathered that people have often regretted sending their child to school at the first opportunity & less often regretted keeping them home a little longer, but you know, I’m worrying that I’m missing some vital, pivotal, life changing point.

Magnificent mail.

Ah I love happy mail! It makes my morning, my day, my week, & the people behind the packages? Well, they’re even better.

Here in reverse order, is what has landed on my doorstep lately, making me smile, jig & swoon;

DSCF9479

Just arrived; a sale order from the Lovely Nic of Yardage Design. If you missed her sale, I don’t want to rub it in, but, well… nerr nerr (..just kidding, as of one minute ago there are still some goodies left…). I bought some misprint market bags; a couple to use as market bags (I’m such a rebel) & one to craft with. Nic also included a bunting panel; though how she knew I’d been umming & ahhhing over one of those too is a mystery; Thank you Nic!

dress

Yesterday a HUGE box arrived from somewhere unfamiliar. I had no idea what it could have been, but when I opened it You Sew Girl, Nicole Mallalieu’s book was inside. I won it via Cath’s blog & I am a little beside myself about it to be honest. I wanted this SO BAD & was going to buy it, but our washing machine kicked the bucket a week after our heater died & I just couldn’t afford it, so when I found out I won a copy, I may have (like the big girly sook I am apparently turning into) welled up a little. Wow it’s a great book by the way, I can’t stop looking through it.

Annnnnnnnnnnd, last but not least, my swap cushion! It arrived last week & it’s gorgeous but I have been waiting for a sunny day to photograph it. Here it is in situ on my bed. Clare made it for me with vintage fabric & not only that but she sent some lovely little gifts along too.
